iOS crashes after sync

I use my Mac and my iPhone to study. Syncing between the two worked great for years. But suddenly, the iOS app always crashes after a sync. When I re-open it, I see the message "The app crashed during a sync. Sync has been turned off." After I hit OK, I can study fine, so the sync seems to execute. Interestingly, the app on the Mac never crashes when I sync.

I've tried full backup/restore, I've deleted and re-installed the iOS app - nothing makes a difference. Somehow the database seems corrupted, but I don't know how to fix it.

I'd very much appreciate your help!

Hi,

I don't know of an issue.

Are you using the App Server or Dropbox sync? If you are using the Dropbox sync, I recommend you create a sync account for the "App Server" and use that.

If you are using Dropbox, there are options to export only the database or only the individual deck/text files. You can perhaps try one OR the other to see if the iPhone will sync. You can study one card, go back to Global Options, Sync, Sync Now, and see what happens. Actually, if you tap "Sync Now" on your iPhone, does it crash?

Thank you so much for the prompt reply!

I spent more time troubleshooting and have these additional details:

- When I use "Download Selected Decks", there is never a crash.
- When I re-activate sync after a crash on the iPhone and press "Sync Now", under "Conflicts" I see all decks that have been changed.

Do you have ideas? (I'm hesitant to adopt your suggestion of using the App Server instead of Dropbox because I have some private data in my databases.)

The problem persists. Do you have any ideas how I can return to productively using the app?

Hi,

I'm really sorry for the slow reply. I found a problem on my end. A new version of the app should be available within a few days. Manually check the App Store.

Wow, you fixed it! I can confirm that sync works without problems again.

How you were able to pin down the problem without further input from me is a mystery, but I'm very grateful!

Thank you!

Great!
What made it relatively easy for me to diagnose is that it crashed for me too. Great when I can duplicate the problem. A recent change broke it. Glad it's fixed.
