Scrambeling of text when trying to copy

Hi Ernie,

I do have a huge problem when generating flashcards and hope you can try to fix it.
I create my cards copying/moving texts between flashcard pages (I'm studying vet med, so no typing up everything ) and often the text gets scrambled/parts removed once I select it, not always but often enough which is really annoying.
This happens whether I use cmd+a or select it by mouse movement.
I first thought this happens due to german vowel mutation, but apparently it does not(removed all vowel mutations and it still happens).. the parts that get omitted or moved are not always the same either, so it's a little weird

I'll give you an example text and what happend with it after selecting:

Once I put a text into the app and try to edit it at a later point this really causes a lot of problems, because I do not always notice when stuff gets lost or suddenly is scrambled and the changes are lost once I leave the page this happend on... You would really make my day, if you could fix this!! <3

Hi Maren,

I also get scrambled text, when I select all. I haven't been able to figure out any pattern yet. I'm still working on it. Give me a couple days to see if I can figure something out. It sure is strange!

In your sample text, you have some UTF-8 BOM (byte order mark) bytes in the middle of your text. I'm not sure this means anything to you. These 3 bytes are sometimes at the beginning of a file and tell the program that the file is UTF8 format. I don't know why they are in the middle of your text in a couple places. So originally I thought the problem was related to this, but even after removing, I still get strange stuff going on when I select all. I tried some sample text from *other* random text source, but didn't get this problem yet. But when I test with some text from your post, I'll oftentimes have the problem. But probably coincidence. Anyway, let me try to figure it out.

I'm sure the weird bytes come from copying out of PDF or screenshots and are not intentional but artefacts.

I don't know how to fix. I'm wondering if it's some big within the Apple framework. The below text would also get scrambled after select-all:

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa
bbbb bbbb bbbbb bbbb
ccccaaaaa cccccccc

I tried this in *another* mac app I have (Dashlane) and the same thing happened. My app is not a native app, it's a "Mac Catalyst" app (where iOS app can run on Mac), so perhaps Dashlane is the same and perhaps there's a bug in these Catalyst apps by Apple.

I have no solution. If you want to use Flashcards Deluxe on Mac, you won't be able to copy-text from within the app. It just won't work consistently.

Personally, I would maintain my text in Excel. (You can export your current deck to Excel.) To transfer, use either OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive. Tap + (add deck), ...

After updating your cloud version, to update the app, tap Edit (at main Decks screen), tap deck, Download/Update. It will use the "deck code" to determine cloud source.
