Shrink photos?

Shrink photos?

Postby Luann » Thu Sep 01, 2011 6:58 pm

Hi Ernie-
Is there a way to reduce the size of the photos on the flashcard screen and have them positioned at the top half of the screen? I want the photo on the top half of the screen and the bottom half of the screen for writing. I have added the photos to the Flashcard Deluxe app two ways: downloading it to my iPad from iPhoto; and uploading the .jpeg on your website and downloading it onto the iPad. Either method, the photo takes up the whole screen of the flashcard with the drawing feature covering up half the photo (but you can see the photo slightly through the drawing space).
Thank! Luann

Hi Luann,

Hmm, good point. No, the app doesn't have this feature. Pictures will get shown as large as possible, a basically be centered vertically. I will make a note of this and see about making some way to improve this for when people are using the drawing feature.

Below is a workaround, but it requires you to add text to each card. Adding text will force the picture smaller because the app will need to create space for the text:

1) To shrink the picture, add text to the same size, text which is just new-lines. So make about 10 new lines. If using Excel, you can type ||||||||||

2) Put the picture at the top: Global Options > View > Picture Above Text

3) As for shrinking the picture more than usual, this is a little trickier. The way to do it is to adjust a custom Card Layout:
Deck Options > Card Layout
Tap "Custom 1" to select
Tap "Edit", Custom 1, Side 1->2, Side 1, Picture, Size.. and change to 0.5 (for 50% of orig size)
The above will affect the side 1 picture when "Show Side First" is set t 1.

Ernie-

Thanks a lot! I did options 1 & 2 and they worked well. I had already tried option 3, but it didn't work for me for some reason (the photo didn't shrink). I tried it again today following your written instructions and it still didn't work. I must have done something wrong.

Thanks again! You have developed a great app and it's wonderful that you respond to questions about your app!

Glad you got most of it working.

If you are interested in shrinking the pictures more... export your deck (or a sample deck) to my server (include pictures) and tell me the deck code. Before exporting, try to make the card layout settings like I mentioned. I can look to see what you did and advise on how to get it to work.
