Side Shows First: Browse Mode vs Study Mode

Side Shows First: Browse Mode vs Study Mode

Postby Teango » Wed Nov 20, 2019 8:36 pm

Aloha, Ernie! Long time FCD user here, first time poster on this forum...

Question: I'd like to flip through my cards in one direction while browsing (i.e., Side 1 displays first while in Browse Mode), but then flip through them in the opposite direction while studying (i.e., Side 2 displays first in standard Study Mode). Is there a way I can set this up automatically for a deck?

Outstanding app by the way! 8-)

Hi Teango,

The normal way to switch directions is to change the "show side first" option to "side 2", right? So it seems you could make this change each time you switch between browse and non-browse mode. Did you want to remove this manually step each time? Did you consider creating a "combination deck"? This can contain your main study deck, and can have its own set of "deck option" settings. You can set the combo deck to view side 1 first, and keep it in browse mode. Then to study, switch over to your main deck. Maybe this would work?

Thanks for the suggestion, Ernie! Yes, it would be great if the app could change "show side first" automatically when switching between browse and non-browse mode. I'm currently studying an Irish language course with close to 200 lessons, and it would be really helpful not to have to change "deck option" settings each time I browse and study a new lesson. I've considered a combination deck, but I'd also like the option to edit cards while initially browsing so that my notes reappear while studying in non-browse mode.

Do you know that when you create a combination deck, the same cards are used (not a copy)? So if you edit or add notes when browsing, they should appear when you study in your other non-browse mode deck.

I didn't know that, and this sounds promising... I'll look into adapting combination decks further. Mahalo for the tip again!
