Change column order

Change column order

Postby miriamAlenka » Fri Nov 05, 2021 8:16 am

I am using a deck I have downloaded from somewhere (Remembering the Heisig Kanji) and would like to switch the content of side 2 and 3. Or show first side 1 and then 3 without having to see side 2. I have not managed to do so via the app so I tried to export the whole deck in order to switch the columns in Excel. However it always gives me the following error: Picture/sound file cannot contain the following characters: V:*?"<.
I tried exporting without media, but the same error keeps popping up. Haven't seen any of these symbols on the picture side, but since the deck contains over 2000 cards, I cannot check one by one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Miriam,

I'm not sure why the file naming problems, but I recommend we try making the changes in the app.

From the study screen, tap the gear icon at top-right to get to Deck Options.
Show Advanced Menu if haven't already
Tap "Card Layout"
Tap "Custom 1" to select.
To edit, tap "Edit" then Custom 1

Side 1->2 is used when "Show Side First" = "Side 1" (in deck options)
Side 2->1 is used when "Show Side First" = "Side 2"

Don't worry about terminlogy here much, just note that you how have two different presentations available depending on your "show side first" setting.
Tap "Side 1->2" (for example)
Here you can see what is shown on each side

Side 1 = question / side shown first
Side 2 = side shown second

Text 1 = first text item as defined on the card

Here you can assign any Text item to any Side.

So maybe you want to something like:
Side 1 = Text 1
Side 2 = Text 3
Side 3 = Text 2

You can also combine so
Side 2 = Text 3 + Text 2

If you have media files (sound or picture), you can also map them here.

So tap "Side 2", and you can change Text 2 to Text 3. You can add Text 2 underneath if desired for example using the (2) row. Also note the Picture/Sound options at bottom.

If this doesn't solve your problem, let me know.

Thanks so much Ernie. Although I had tried around for a while, I somehow didn´t see the option to activate the advanced menu. Problem solved.
