Pictures Upload from online storage

Pictures Upload from online storage

Postby mbm » Wed Nov 03, 2010 4:25 am

In the past I have used GWhiz Gflashpro to create cards. Many of my cards use pictures. In Gflash you enter the location of the jpeg of the online storage i.e. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_....prss.jpg in the second column.
Is it possible to enter an online storage such as flicker, tinypic ect, http address into FCD in the column to have the program go to online storage?
If so how would this be done.

Secondly how many card sides are allowed? Can one say have a question on side one then answers on side two (column 2), side 3 (column 3) and so on?

Thanks

Yes, you can load pictures from your own online storage. The import format is column 1 = side 1, column 2 = side 2, column 3 = side 3. When adding pictures, you specify them within the same column as the text, but use special "pic" tags to denote a picture. Example:
Side 1 text <pic side1.jpg> [new column] Side 2 text <pic side2.jpg>
To use your own storage as the source, enter the full URL, like <pic mysite.com/side1.jpg>
If all your pictures are in the same directory, you can simplify by just specifying the URL directory once, and using just the file names in the text. In my Upload page, I have a field called "Media Dir URL". This is where you enter the directory URL, if you choose to use this feature.

Currently, 3 sides are allowed. A new version should be coming out in a couple weeks that will support up to 5 columns. Also, a new import format will be supported to support these 5 sides... with this new format, picture names won't use the <pic> tags, but will go into their own column.

Thanks Ernie,
I've been able to upload a picture by specifying the file name in the media line such as:
http://content.screencast.com/users/mbm ... ...picture name.jpg
Is there a way I can direct FCD to go to say:
http://content.screencast.com/users/mbm ... /media/*.*
where wild cards depict all my online photos?

Maybe more importantly the pictures that FCD are exceptionally small on the screen. The online image is 400x600 px, what is the
maximum size of photo that can be used on the card?
With a large photo on a card can one slide the card around to see different areas of the image? Or could one zoom in on the photo
image, if so how?

I will assume you are uploading your text to my website. If this is not the case, let me know.
You said, "by specifying the file name in the media line". I'm not sure what this means. You either
1) include the full path in each <pic> tag or
2) Inlclude just the file name and use the "Media Dir URL" field in my upload page. In your case, this would be "http://content.screencast.com/users/mbm ... /media". Does this answer your first question? You still need to specify the file names in the <pic> tags.

Photos are not shrunk when downloading from your own server. It's good to keep them under 600x600 or so for performance reasons. To zoom into a picture, touch and hold the picture for a second and you'll enter zoom mode. You need to tap the "x" in the top right to exit zoom mode.

mbm,

In regards to the photo size, I regularly upload pictures that are 1024x768, and sometimes a little bigger, with no problems. I also use Ernie's option 2 for uploading pictures with Dropbox. Once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite simple!

**Ernie, You mentioned an update coming within a few weeks. Will this update also include the Google Spreadsheets and Dropbox integration, or will that come later? Thanks! **

David,

The dropbox / google docs integration will come later. I have not started work on that yet, but expect to in a couple weeks.
