The biggest reason I don't like Anki, when I"ve tried to use it in the past, is that everytime I loaded the desktop program odd behavior with Safari happened (sluggishness, pinwheels) happened later (without Anki even running). Then I would use time machine to go back to a clean install prior. I can't say for sure Anki was the issue, but it seems Anki was always the common denominator. That was a few years back. Maybe things have changed since.

Secondly, I preferred to have a way to backup my cards independently.

And third, I didn't like the initial study period for cards, which flashcards deluxe also has, where you have to spend time learning the cards before the enter the general long-term learning group. I'm not using this to study for any particular deadline or test, so I didn't need this feature. But having since figured out how to get around this with Flashcards Deluxe, I could probably make an a similar adjustment with Anki. (With Flashcards Deluxe, I just changed the settings to reduce the number of times a card has to be graded correct to move to general long-term study. Then when I add a new group of notes, I just flip through them all quickly with correct grades repeatedly so they enter the general study group as soon as possible. I just want to study them once in any given day).

Anki is pretty open source and can do almost anything you can imagine which attracted to me it on multiple occasions. But in the end, Anki has driven me insane every single time I've tried to use it because it's so buggy and has such a learning curve to get it to do what you want. So Flashcards Deluxe has always been my fave at the end of the day because it's never given me problems and doesn't have a huge learning curve for things I want to make my cards capable of.

Hi changho21,

I'm the developer of Flashcards Deluxe. I haven't used Anki for actual learning, so I can't help out. Most Flashcards Deluxe users don't come here to post answers, so you might not get a response from others here. Sorry. But below is a link to a similar posting here on this forum that does provide a little bit of information.

I probably would just recommend using both for a couple weeks to see how things go. I think either program should work well long-term, so I think picking a favorite after a couple weeks of use would be safe.

In Flashcards Deluxe, you'll want to use the "spaced repetition" mode if you want a similar experience to Anki. You may want to read more details about how my SRS system works:

I bought and used Flashcards Deluxe by chance.
He was using the anki before.
I want to use one of the two, but I can't choose one.

Can you compare them if anyone has used them both at this forum?
I'm not sure yet.
